Paradox is the 22nd installment of the bestselling FBI series by Catherine Coulter. Willicot, Maryland police chief, Ty Christie is out on her deck early morning and witnesses a murder. She he calls the divers in to find the murder victim, and when they do, they also find bones that have been in the water as well as a belt buckle that may lead to the identification of those bones and hopefully to who is responsible for the bones being in the water and the identities of those who the bones belong to. Christie is worried, of course, that there is a psychopath living in this small community, and that there may be more murders to come.

Readers who are familiar with Catherine Coulter’s FBI series, will want to pick this one up as soon as possible. The regular characters are there, as well as a great story, full of suspense and intrigue. Coulter has a unique writing style – her characters are well-developed and, while there are new ones in each book, the old ones appear to make readers feel a familiarity with them and also feel that they are old friends. Few authors are able to do this, especially in 22 installments, but Coulter seems to pull it off.

The suspense begins in the first chapter, and doesn’t end until the very end of the last chapter. There are twists and turns, a bit of romance, and surprises throughout in Coulter’s very distinct style. Some of the scenarios will put readers on the edge, and they won’t be able to put the novel down.

Fans of the FBI series will love this novel. Although the novel is suitable for first-time readers of the series, it is recommended that readers read the previous novels to familiarize themselves with the characters; this will make the novel more enjoyable. Of course, this novel is highly recommended; Catherine Coulter is a prolific writer, but her novels are well-done and definitely worth reading.
